The second concert of the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra opens with the powerful and dramatic tone poem Egmont Overture by Beethoven. This work remains one of his most performed orchestral pieces and is correlated to the story of Count Egmont by the great German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Concluding the concert will be the immensely popular Italian Symphony of Felix Mendelssohn. This work is considered by many to be the epitome of Mendelssohn’s compositional genius. Also appearing on tonight’s concert will be the Beulahland Gospel Choir performing orchestrated spirituals by the celebrated conductor of Macon Pops, Matt Catingub.
