Labor Day Festival
An exceptional opportunity for outstanding high school string musicians to study with an elite group of concert artists
in a strings immersion workshop.
Robert McDuffie, Lawrence Dutton (violist, Emerson String Quartet) and
David Kim (concertmaster, Philadelphia Orchestra) will be coaching
and performing alongside Festival participants.
August 30-September 2, 2024
The Labor Day Festival is an intensive, hands-on, three-day workshop with McDuffie faculty, limited to just 8 rising high school seniors: 4 violinists, 2 violists,
and 2 cellists.
Participants will take part in master classes, coachings and rehearsals as they prepare for the festival’s closing concert, when they will perform string quartets as well as play with the McDuffie Center String Ensemble.
The workshop program is FREE for accepted participants to attend, who only need to pay for their travel to and from Mercer University. All other expenses during the workshop are covered.
Application Deadline: July 15, 2024
Students accepted to the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University receive a full-tuition, 4-year scholarship.
Auditions for the 2025-26 academic year will be held March 16, 2025.
